How To Listen To Storms came out on 31 May 2024. It’s epic – goes for over 9 minutes. With the synth I create a low drone using a fat tone that includes a mild rotary flange effect. I very slightly bend the pitch of it from time to time to make it more unsettling. Whenever Aviva Shifreen says ‘the trees are set on fire’, I then smash down on the synth with a sort of distorted guitar sound, which to me represents lightning igniting the landscape. Matthew Syres uses lots of different effects on this track and one of my favourites is one that sounds like an electricity cable coming loose and swinging out into the storm.
